I learned from my years as a costume designer that clothes have the power to change how someone acts, moves, and even thinks. Think of how powerful and prepared you feel when you suit up properly for a job. And when others see you, your look communicates to the world you're serious about what you do.

So one day, when Chelsea said to me, “You know, a lot of women need better pants,” it became a call to action for me to figure out how to build a better working wardrobe for women, one that emboldens us to handle our daily successes and challenges with style and ease.

Inspired by our immediate community of amazing women–from artists and fabricators to moms, teachers, weekend crafters, chefs, and entrepreneurs–and drawing on my 14 years of design experience, I set out to create a brand dedicated to empowering us through better, more thoughtful design and The Willary was born.

I put The Willary's clothes through the ringer and found they're durable enough to survive everything from daily bike commutes through New York to welding steel shelves and good-looking enough to impress while landing my job as a gallery manager.

Versatility like this is important, because like most Makers, I wear a lot of hats. I build, paint, design, metalsmith, manage, draft, tutor, and run a gallery. I want my clothes to be as well-crafted, thoughtful and durable as the things I make.

In my many lines of work I'm usually the only gal in the room. Sometimes I need to speak a little louder to be heard or remind people I can carry my own tools. I don't want the added inconvenience of dealing with wimpy, too-tight clothes that constrict my movement and distract me from my work. With The Willary I'm proud to give us a tool that helps us take on our work with confidence, ease and style.
